O’s Notes: Cyrus goes solo on this spiritual encounter. The program is a combination of traditional gospel tunes, some spiritual covers and his own “Gospel Improv”. Chestnut’s work on piano is very dynamic and resonant. We hardly noticed the absence of other instruments! His arrangements of Ellington’s “Come Sunday” and Simon’s “Bridge Over Troubled Waters” are excellent. Other highlights are “Wade In The Water”, “Lean On Me” and “Lift Every Voice And Sing”. This is inspirational music year round whenever you need a lift of just want a pleasant peaceful passage!
