O’s Notes: Guitarist Jarrett Carter, bassist Thomas Milovac, pianist Jonah Pierre and drummer Benjamin Shorstein are the jazz collective Madre Vaca. The Elements is their fourth album and is broken into four movements, each composed by one of the band members. We felt more of the destructive (vs. productive) powers in “Fire” but enjoyed the cleansing flow of “Water”. “Earth” is a more chaotic, free fusion illustrating simultaneous effects of an earthquake, volcano eruption and hurricane! They end with more gentle cleaning “Wind” that is far more palatable to warp the set.
