O’s Notes: Gennett was an early record label that captured early twentieth century jazz at its best. Trumpeter Mark Buselli and trombonist Brent Wallarab were inspired by those recordings. They lead their jazz orchestra over four movements on The Gennett Suite. They open with a medley, “Tin Roof Blues” featuring Ned Boyd (b-sax), one of many excellent, passionate solos across the bandstand. We liked the ragtime twist on “Dippermouth Blues”. There is nice work by Jeremy Allen (b) on “Interlude” before they conclude the first disc with “Wolverine Blues”, a slow, seductive, and soothing track! The second disc contains Movement 3 Hoagland, and Movement 4: Mr. Jelly Lord, with compositions composed by Hoagy Carmichael and Jelly Roll Morton. The liner notes are a history book and the music is resounding.
