O’s Notes: Bassist Sean Smith leads a quartet with guitarist John Hart, John Ellis on sax and drummer Russell Meissner. They play modern jazz opening with a swinging groove on “Betting Blind”, one of 12 original compositions by Smith. They cook on “What’d You Say?” and give u a little samba on “Margin of Error”. It isn’t all upbeat as they relax the pace for “Lawn Ornaments” and the mellow tones of “Voices”. This unit works well together performing Smith’s vision and we expect they’ll return soon. We certainly hope to hear more along these lines!
